I am a sculptor. My artistic training is based academically. My focus and passion are masks. I have been heavily influenced by my culture and heritage that comes from Ponce, Puerto Rico. I was initially inspired by the folkloric creature found within the Puerto Rican culture known as the “vejigante.” This is a folkloric character seen and used within the festivities and carnivals of Puerto Rico for over the past 200 years to the present. After learning the artisanal craft of creating the traditional masks, and the history that accompanies it, I decided to use the folkloric concepts and contemporize them.
